Am I a 'furry'?

Fri Jul 27, 2007, 10:21 PM
I do not know much about the furry community/furry fandom/furrydom. Though, I have lately begun to ponder as to whether I myself am considered a ‘furry’.

Obviously, from my gallery I have an appreciation towards anthropomorphic art. Admittingly, my initial reason on beginning to draw anthro art was because it was an alternate deviation from drawing humans. I actually just wanted to draw and design clothes – but my human art is…hmmm…and I seem to have more ease with animal structures. Overall, I prefer not to classify myself as solely an ‘anthro artist’. I actually like to just draw creature art in general (fantasy art and so on). My art subjects heavily depend on my mood at the time, like if I want to convey a subject in a more humanistic nature or not. I do occasionally doodle and sketch some human pieces from time to time (but I have no confidence in displaying them in my main gallery at the moment).

I don’t roleplay. I don’t attend furry conventions or go fursuiting. I don’t wear ears, tails or collars etc. I am not a ‘lifestyler’. I am not into yiff (though I feel indifferent about it depending on portrayal). I’m not really obsessed about actual literary or animated anthro portrayed characters.

Does my interest in anthro art (somehow me saying the term ‘furry’ seems awkward) constitute me a member of the furry fandom?

I’m not trying to degrade or defend the furry fandom. (We’ve seen enough of that) I simply would like some input from other people on their thoughts as to what makes someone a ‘furry fan’ and what doesn’t.
